Wet, Wild, + Wonderful in West Virginia

Part of my transformation into becoming a healthier person includes taking more active day trips and vacations. This means taking a drive about an hour and a half away from my home in the DC area and heading to West Virginia. If you live in the area, you have undoubtedly heard the radio commercial that swears it’s just what you need for a good time. I remember thinking to myself that in the middle of summer, all a girl would need is some shade! No more excuses about it being too hot or exhausting! I am putting that aside in favor of making better choices and embracing the outdoors as part of my overall transformation to healthy living.

According to the West Virginia commerce website, there are tons of things to get into. For my first attempt at being “active,” I plan on whitewater rafting along the Lower New River Gorge  (Oak Hill area).  Since I have no desire to die an untimely death, the guided tours seem like a safe bet. River Expedition’s website says the tour is about five hours, which is AWESOME! MyFitness Pal says you can burn 340 calories per hour…so we are talking 1,700 calories vaporized! I guess I should forget my other plans to head to the casino for dinner and drinks. It would be a shame to gain all those calories back over dinner.
