With the anticipation of my wedding night, and my now husband and I abstaining until then, I started to wonder if people actually consummate their marriage on their wedding night. I remember asking my mother if she and my father consummated their marriage on their wedding night while I was getting my wedding dress fitted. She almost choked and the seamstress snickered. But, I thought it was a valid question. I say this because there is so much built around “the wedding night.”
I wasn’t exactly the Virgin Mary on my wedding day, but I darn sure strutted my stuff like I was! Suffice it to say, I took a poll to see what my friends had done on their wedding night. Out of the 10 asked, 6 stated they did not consummate their marriage on their wedding night from exhaustion due to partying. As my day approached, and I gathered my special “wedding night outfit,” I really wondered whether or not we would make it to this supposedly amazing night of passion once two became one.
Well, just so you know, we didn’t. To say we were too exhausted is an understatement. Being that I was up from 6 am in the morning till 4am the next day and knowing we had to be up at 9am for a wedding close out brunch, and then hop on a place for a 18hr flight to our honeymoon destination meant nothing in me wanted to consummate our marriage. I figured since we had abstained for 6 months that both my new husband and I deserved more than a lazy romp for our first night together as a married couple. Thankfully, we waited until we arrived in Greece for our honeymoon and it was well worth the wait!
While this might not be the practice for everyone, if you don’t consumate your marriage on your wedding day just know its ok. You have forever.
So I ask you, did you or didn’t you? I’d love to know!
