You ever feel like you have so much on your plate but your keep on pressing on because you don’t know what else to do? Bills have to be paid, you have to show up to work, you have to walk the dog and make dinner when you get home and then life just seems blah. Then you wake up and do it all over again the next day. Being a responsible adult is not fun. It makes me wonder what college is even for because it’s not like it prepared me for life after college. You are supposed to learn whatever trade you intend to follow when you graduate but 9 times out of 10, you will not go into that field unless you are in a prestigious profession like becoming a Doctor or Lawyer. And why is that you ask? Because those bills have a silly habit of coming on time every month and it’s your responsibility to pay them.
Then I wonder about everybody else. Why even go to college these days? I am not sure I have a great argument for why my future children should even go to college knowing what I know now and what my life and experience has been thus far. We currently pay more for a college degree that is not even worth it’s over inflated price tag so that we can make less when we graduate. Yet the argument is continuously made that education after high school is more important than ever before. Then you have people in their mid to late 20’s working on PhD’s so they can be even less marketable because they will lack the experience necessary to occupy a position that requires that level of education. So many conflicting arguments yet all true.
I went to college graduated, and even went the extra step and got my Masters and was literally nowhere closer to my dream. I think Langston Hughes knew what he was talking about when he said, “a dream deferred…”
