How to Develop a Signature Look

Something occurred to me as I put on my sweat pants and graphic tee – I’m no longer in college and I’m expecting a child in the next month. Having said that, I can’t explain to you why I’ve held onto my signature look for so long. I think it has a lot to do with comfort and me remembering fond times from my college years. But being that I’m going to be raising a child and in my 30s, it makes more sense to start thinking about the next phase in life and dressing in such a way that I don’t embarrass my kids.

While this sounds all well and good, I realized that I have no idea where to start. I will definitely be pulling a Kim K and dressing in all black and white until I drop this baby weight, but then what? This sent me on a style journey to see the type of looks I gravitated more towards and what signature pieces I needed in my wardrobe that will always be in style and make me appear more polished…essentially like a woman in her 30s.

After a few weeks of searching, I’ve settled on the classic/minimalist look that pretty much encompasses all the colors I already love (black, white, dark brown, and grey), but also offers pops of color and graphic prints. I’ve decided on a few classic pieces such as diamond earrings, a good handbag, a classic black dress, and a grown-up pair of pumps.

Here’s what I’m considering for my classic pieces:

  • Half carat diamond earrings - $425
