Beauty Is Pain…To Your Wallet!

I have come to the realization that everything costs WAY too much these days. All the essentials like food, electricity, and housing are all increasing at alarming levels while almost everyone’s paychecks are staying the same. After going over all of my monthly bills (it’s too painful to talk about), I then took a peek at the other categories that cover the rest of the money I spend on a monthly basis. What I found was that the monthly price tag for my beauty regime is equivalent to a car payment or at least two of my bills! WTF is that about?! To get to the bottom of this, I looked at one month’s spending for June 2013 and here is what I found:

  1. Hair: $180 (just for the hair)
  2. Hair stylist: $160
  3. Individual eyelashes: $75
  4. Pedicure: $50
  5. Eyebrow waxing: $10
  6. Hair-care products: $85 (this includes hydrating shampoo and conditioner, leave-in conditioner, edge straightener, and all-natural oil)
  7. Skin cleanser and moisturizer: $80

Grand total (drum roll please)…..$640!!!!!

To be fair, this is not a typical month as hair extensions can last for about 8 to 10 weeks and the price for someone to do your hair is a lot cheaper than a weave install. Not to mention that most women, including myself, are capable of doing the daily upkeep to our hair. Just to make sure I wasn’t trying to make this horrifying fact easier on my soul, I looked at my beauty spending for the month of May and it was roughly $300. Either way, that is entirely too much. What’s worse is that I don’t even notice how much I am spending because I am convinced that I NEED to get a pedi or NEED my skin cleanser and moisturizer.

In that spirit, I will be scouring beauty counters everywhere to find better deals and will pass along the info to you! Eyelashes and weaves withstanding, I think using more drugstore beauty products could save me a bundle and be just as effective as the higher price stuff I am currently spending a fortune on. Also, I will be taking a look at all of my unnecessary spending and using those savings to pay for all of my beauty products. The first thing to get the axe is my morning coffee routine, which is about $1.43 a day or $42.59 a month…I gotta start somewhere, right?

How much do YOU spend on beauty? Was it more than you thought?

Feel free to share your beauty tips and favorite products…anything that will save a few bucks is more than appreciated!
