A+J Gives Back: Christmas Homeless Feeding

If there is one thing that is near and dear to both Ann and I, it’s giving back. Community service is one area in which we recognize the importance of helping others and in doing so helping ourselves. That being the case, since our Thanksgiving Homeless Feeding was such a success we decided to partner once again with the Totally Committed Community Outreach Center (TCCOC) and organize a Christmas Homeless Feeding.

With ample time to prepare, Ann and I set out to let people know that we were once again assisting in this effort and would be donating hand warmers, gloves, scarves, socks and more and if they were interested they could come out and participate. We  made a call to action and sent out various forms of notice through social media. We received quite a few replies from people wanting to help and couldn’t have been more surprised or thrilled. One of our biggest surprises was from the contact made by Mr. Al Oglesby, Store Manager of Wal-Mart in Chantilly, VA. He donated $200 on behalf of Wal-Mart to allow us to gather supplies and with that we were able to purchase 100 hand warmers, 25 hats, 20 wet ones, 20 toothpaste/brushes, 30 packs of Kleenex, and 44 pairs of socks. In addition to Wal-Mart’s generous donation, local area Starbucks donated 100 cups of coffee for the homeless.

Before we knew it, it was Saturday December 21st and time to feed! We had approximately 17 A+J supporters come out and 40 people total combined with TCCOC. Together we served roughly 300 sandwiches, cups of soup and chili, rolls, fruits cookies, coffee, and tea. We were also able to distribute cold weather outerwear, miscellaneous toiletry items, handbags and more. The Wal-Mart and Starbucks contribution allowed us to significantly increase the supplies we were able to distribute and will aid those less fortunate during the cold winter months. Overall the event was a complete success and we couldn’t be happier at the turnout.

As time goes on we plan on continuing to give back in this manner and other ways. So, if you’re interested in helping us or have an opportunity that you think we might be interested in contact us at aj@annjaneliving.com  . Also make sure to check out the pics below from the event!
